A  company  may  be  formed  under  this  act  for  any  lawful  business,  whether  or  not  for  profit, subject to any provisions of law governing or regulating such business within The Republic of Somaliland

Under the guidance of the National Development Plan II (2017-2021) and the Somaliland Vision 2030, Somaliland is on the path of social and economic development, and the year 2019 has been one of significant progress. The MoTIT is proud to have contributed to this progress in different ways.

The Somaliland Intellectual Property Office (SOMIPO) oversees Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues under the mandate of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Tourism. The country has currently developed a legal regime for the protection of intellectual property rights even though, it has not a member of a number of major IPR treaties, such as the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) copyright treaty, the Berne Convention for Literary and Artistic Works, the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks, and the Patent Cooperation Treaty.
which has been rebuilding its infrastructure and its nascent democracy since May 1991, is currently developing a modern law dealing with intellectual property. Somaliland does, however, consider itself bound by the international conventions that 1960 to 1991 Somali (Democratic) Republic has acceded to, as generally confirmed in Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic, even those that have not been acceded to the Somali Republic. It remains the case, however, that whilst full compliance with and application of some of these conventions and involvement in their governing bodies is severely constrained by Somaliland’s lack of international recognition, there is a commitment on the part of Somaliland to abide, as far as it is allowed to do so, by the provisions of the above mentioned international conventions.
Intellectual Property (IP) Law is that area of law that relates to legal rights concerning creative effort or commercial reputation or goodwill. The (UN) World Intellectual Property Organisation WIPO mentions, on its website, that IP is divided into two categories:

This report summarises the evolution of business registrations, business licenses, and tourist visits in Somaliland during the year of 2020. Detail is provided regarding each of these areas, such as the most common nationality of foreign tourists, or the distribution of business registration and licenses by business type. After providing detail on each of these areas, Section 3 briefly highlights the main tenets of the report.

Somaliland tourism

In light of the potential impact of the COVID-19 crisis on Somaliland’s economy1 , the Somaliland Economic Sub-Committee for COVID-19 requested the development of two private sector surveys, one focusing on the formal sector, and the other on the informal sector. The Ministry of Planning and Development (MoPD) conducted the formal business sector survey, published in May 20202 . The informal sector survey was tasked to the Ministry of Trade, and Tourism (MoTIT).

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises intersect to all subsectors of the economy and provide the largest sources of employment and wealth creation as indicated in the National Development Plan II. The development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is seen as one of the sustainable ways of reducing the levels of poverty and improving the quality of life of households
